Since 1944, Fur-Bearer Defenders has been working to raise awareness about the inherent brutality of the fur industry. Our specialized knowledge of fur trapping has helped reduce the number of trapped animals in Canada. Several celebrities have also endorsed our powerful videos on trapping cruelty and have spoken up on behalf of the fur-bearing animals.

Due to our advocacy work to change legislation, our charitable status was annulled in 1999 by Revenue Canada (now the CRA) and as a result we are not able to issue tax receipts, apply for grants or Government funding. We operate as a non-profit organization (registration number S-4222) and our funding comes solely from the caring support of our donors.
